7-1 Triumph Takes South Beach to 29-19
|
The South Beach Blaze topped the Athletic Club KC U-24 by the score of 7-1, with the biggest share of the credit going to shortstop Jorge Martínez. Martínez went 2-3 with 2 home runs and was hit by a pitch, while adding 3 RBI and scoring twice for the Blaze on the day. George Hawkins, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-2. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and walking 1. The save went to Jessy Werther, his 1st this season.
Martínez had a big at-bat with the bases empty in the bottom of the fifth inning, when he hit a solo home run. The Blaze went on to win.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said South Beach manager Vicente Rodríguez.
The win gives South Beach a season record of 29-19.
