Jim Hunter did all he could to help his team win. In the end, though, it wasn't enough to keep the Syracuse Storm from losing, 4-3, to the Yucca Valley Yellows at Storm Park. Hunter threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball. The winner in relief was Katsunosuki Hirayama. He is now 3-3. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings. Eric Ramírez was called on to finish, recording his 22nd save.
Yucca Valley used a clutch hit from Jason Wilson to get the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Yellows ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
After the game, Yucca Valley manager Santiago Rigney applauded the team's effort. "They busted their humps out there," he said.
With the win, Yucca Valley has a record of 53-40. Syracuse falls to 64-29.
