The Bethesda Atoms picked up a win at Atoms Field, knocking off the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 4-1. On the mound for Bethesda was right-hander Ben van de Loo, who played a pivotal role in the win. van de Loo got the win, improving to 3-2. He allowed 3 hits and walked 4 over 6.1 innings. van de Loo allowed 1 run. Máximo Luna, credited with the save, is now 1 for 2 in save opportunities.
In the top of the ninth, John Allen stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Thunder Hawks were trailing 4-1, but had the bases loaded. That's when Máximo Luna made a terrific pitch and Allen flied out. Gone was the dream of a Ft. Polk South comeback.
The win puts Bethesda at 39-61.
