A 4-RBI performance from Ernesto Fernández, who is tied for 6th in the PAA with a .389 on-base percentage, helped the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis beat the Virginia Beach Whales, 8-7. The win belongs to Ron Ward in relief. His record improves to 1-1. Arlen Mata took the loss for Virginia Beach. The Whales, now 60-35, have lost 4 straight.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With two out, Fernández hit a slider from Arlen Mata for a run-scoring single. The Mariachis, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.

"It wasn't a pretty victory," said Fernández, "but we got it done."
