The Mancelona Torch got a strong performance from pitcher Inunnguaq Lovstrom, who stymied the Lake Erie offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Torch Field. Lovstrom, the winner, moves to 7-4. He threw 5.2 innings of 3-hit ball, while fanning 6 and giving up 4 walks. The win gives Mancelona a season record of 29-26.
The Torch got an important contribution from designated hitter Takenao Taniguchi, who in the bottom of the third knocked a 0-1 changeup into left-center for a 2-run double. It was his 8th double of the season and put the Torch ahead, 3-0.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Lovstrom said after the game.
