Nuevo Mexico Mariachis starter Kent Woods had all his pitches working at Mariachi Band Shell. His stellar performance paved the way for an easy 9-2 Nuevo Mexico win over the Virginia Beach Whales. Nuevo Mexico reliever Rusty Williams was the winner. His record is now 6-3. Manuel García took the loss. The third-place Mariachis have won 4 in a row.

Kichibei Kawaguchi hit a 2-run double off Bill Gould in the bottom of the seventh, which put the Mariachis in front, 4-2. In addition to the double, Kawaguchi had 1 single and 1 walk, while going 2 for 4.

"We swung the bats good throughout the lineup," said Nuevo Mexico skipper Gus Gibbs.
