River Rats Defeat Arryns, 4-3
|
The Columbia River Rats had to overcome a fine effort from Lake Erie pitcher Jimmy Young to grab a narrow 4-3 win at Columbia Stadium. Young went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The winner was Columbia reliever Scotty Mays, now 1-0. The loser was Matt Green. The River Rats, at 25-28, have now won 4 straight.
The River Rats relied on left fielder Joren van Schie for the game-winning hit. And, in the bottom of the 21st, he delivered, hitting a run-scoring single to seal the deal.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," van Schie told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
