River Rats Squelch Comets Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Columbia River Rats picked up a win at Columbia Stadium, knocking off the Kent Comets, 3-0. Starting pitcher Coy Stewart was a big reason why. Stewart, now 4-4, was the winner. In 6.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing no runs. The 9th-place River Rats go to 22-28.
The River Rats got an important contribution from first baseman Evan Segar, who in the bottom of the fourth hit a 2-2 curveball into left for a solo home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the River Rats ahead, 2-0.
Stewart told a Columbia Gazette reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
