Late Rally by Pierogis Secures 7-1 Win
|
Providence got a terrific performance from pitcher José Santos, but it wasn't enough to beat the Squirrel Hill Pierogis. Squirrel Hill won the Field of Plenty contest, 7-1. Santos threw 7.2 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The winner was Gerald Currer in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Francisco Díaz took the loss. Squirrel Hill has now won 4 straight.
Squirrel Hill used the timely hitting of Christian Bray to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Pierogis on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Bray told the Squirrel Hill Gazette. "But we take nothing for granted."
