Nuevo Mexico Gets 7-6 Win
|
In a tight contest at Virginia Beach Grounds, the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis edged the Virginia Beach Whales by the score of 7-6. Nuevo Mexico center fielder Kichibei Kawaguchi, who blasted 1 home run, was a key contributor. Rusty Williams notched the win in relief. The right-hander allowed 2 runs on 1 hit in 1.1 innings. His record now sits at 5-2. With the win, Nuevo Mexico upped its record to 50-25.
The game was at a stalemate until shortstop Sergio Núñez came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Virginia Beach pitcher Manuel García, he hit a first pitch fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Nuevo Mexico on top, 7-6.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Kawaguchi said.
