Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Squirrel Hill Pierogis and Virginia Beach Whales.
The Squirrel Hill Pierogis bested the Virginia Beach Whales by a score of 4-3, with designated hitter Rodrigo Santana getting the main credit. On the day, Santana was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk for the Pierogis. Jack Herer closed it out for his 15th save.
Had Roy Howard not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 1st, Howard hit a 2-run home run. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Pierogis.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Virginia Beach manager Domingo García.
The 'W' lifts Squirrel Hill's record to 25-31.
