Mariachis Squelch Pierogis Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Nuevo Mexico Mariachis beat the Squirrel Hill Pierogis, 3-0, at Field of the Rawhides. Starting pitcher Floyd Emery was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Emery got the win, improving to 6-2. He allowed 6 hits and walked 2 over 6.2 innings. Emery allowed no runs. Ron Gray earned the save, his 4th.
In the bottom of the seventh, Stan James stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Pierogis were trailing 3-0, but had the bases loaded. That's when Sekien Saromi made a terrific pitch and James struck out. Gone was the dream of a Squirrel Hill comeback.
The Mariachis, now 28-20, have won 4 in a row.
