The Virginia Beach Whales picked up a win at Thunder Hawks Ballpark, knocking off the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 6-2. Starting pitcher Norm Wells played a key role in the triumph. Wells, now 2-0, was the winner. In 6.2 innings, he gave up 2 hits, while striking out 1, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Virginia Beach has an impressive 27-13 record.
Scott Beavis, the 24-year old right fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Beavis contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the first inning to put Virginia Beach up, 1-0.
"Throwing strikes was the main thing," Wells said.
