Airmen Go Down to Defeat, 3-1
|
The 3-1 Syracuse win over Alameda was due largely to Jim Hunter. The Storm designated hitter threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball. In 7.1 innings, Hunter surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 7 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. John Ellis finished to wrap up his 5th save.
Tied up with the Airmen in the top of the fifth inning, the Storm got a boost from center fielder Ángelo Campos. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Campos saw a 1-2 changeup from Jorge Gonzáles and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Syracuse on top, 2-1.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Syracuse manager Harris Bailey.
The Storm, now 12-6, have played some good baseball in the early going.
