Atoms Fall Short, 5-4, at Virginia Beach
|
The Virginia Beach Whales weathered an outstanding game by Bethesda second baseman Wally Harrison to topple the Atoms, 5-4. Harrison hit 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. Virginia Beach reliever I-tsing Weng picked up the win, upping his record to 2-0. Stephen Reed shouldered the loss. Virginia Beach has now won 3 in a row.
The Whales got an important contribution from right fielder George McLean, who in the bottom of the fifth hit a 1-2 forkball into right-center for a solo home run. It was his 6th home run of the season and put the Whales ahead, 5-2.
"We've got a great group of guys," McLean said, "and we're having fun right now."
