The Virginia Beach Whales picked up a win at Old-Timers Park, taking down the Northville Eclipse, 5-3. Starting pitcher William Gordon was a big reason why. The win belongs to Bill Gould in relief. His record improves to 1-0. John Ralston took the loss for Northville. Arlen Mata recorded the save, his 2nd.
Virginia Beach used the clutch hitting of Neung-uk Yi to snag the win. The left fielder drilled a grand slam home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Whales ahead, 5-3. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a crucial one.
"We've got a great group of guys," Yi said, "and we're having fun right now."
The win brings the Whales to 8-5, a promising start as the team looks to return to the playoffs.
