The Mercer Island Screaming Eagles beat the Virginia Beach Whales, 4-3. Mercer Island pitcher and Isabela, Puerto Rico, native Luis Gutiérrez led the way. The loss lowers the Virginia Beach record to 2-2.

The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Mercer Island designated hitter Steve Lodge, facing Bill Gould, had a run-scoring walk. It gave the Screaming Eagles the 4-3 win.

Lodge told the Mercer Island Chronicle: "Sometimes the big stage is not big enough for me."
