George Butler was locked and loaded, helping the Virginia Beach Whales beat the Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks, 6-1. Butler went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 2. His record improves to 1-0. The Whales, now 2-0, have been playing some good baseball.
The Whales got an important contribution from shortstop Lynn Medlen, who in the top of the fifth hit a 1-0 sinker into right for a 2-run triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Whales ahead, 5-1.
"We'll savor this win," Medlen told the Virginia Beach Gazette, "then get ready for the next game."
