Whales Drop Thunder Hawks, 7-3

The Ft. Polk South Thunder Hawks inaugurated the 2046 campaign with a disappointing 7-3 loss to the Virginia Beach Whales at Thunder Hawks Ballpark. Virginia Beach second baseman Hong-bo Chu had a big impact on the outcome. He went 1-3 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 and driving in 2. Arlen Mata finished the game for Virginia Beach and earned his 1st save.
Virginia Beach used a well-timed hit by George McLean to capture the win. The right fielder socked a bases-clearing double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Whales ahead, 5-3. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"It was a solid team effort," said McLean after the game.
