Fighting Imps Pull Off Thrilling 5-3 Win in Extras
|
The Ithaca Fighting Imps faced a tough opponent in Ottawa pitcher Raúl Martínez, but did just enough to pull out the victory at Nationals Park by a final score of 5-3. Martínez went 7 innings and allowed 2 runs. The Fighting Imps raised their record to 39-36.
Ithaca used the timely hitting of Luis Ávila to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a 2-run single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Fighting Imps on top, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I like to keep things lively in the clubhouse," said Ávila. "Believe me, it's much easier after a win."
