In a true baseball rarity, Larry Larsen of the Lake Minnetonka Love Boats no-hit the Irving Blue Sox at Blue Sox Ballpark today and -- incredibly -- still took the loss.

The right-handed Larsen shackled the Blue Sox all game, allowing no hits over 8 innings. However, Irving was able to cobble together enough through other means to outscore the hapless Love Boats offense and take an unlikely 2-1 win.

"There's no getting around it, we mucked it up for Larry today," Lake Minnetonka manager Javier Martínez said. "We always tell them 'Go out there and pitch a good game and we'll take care of the rest.' Well, he gave us an incredible game and we blew it, plain and simple."

A visibly upset Larsen declined to speak with BNN reporters following the game. He recorded 4 strikeouts and surrendered 4 walks in a sensational performance that will nevertheless go into the league record books as a loss.

In 10 starts this year Larsen has recorded a 3-3 record and a 2.43 ERA.
