The rain did not keep Irving and Ottawa from finishing their game.
The Irving Blue Sox picked up a win at Nationals Park, taking down the Ottawa Nationals, 2-1. Starting pitcher Jeffrey Eckert was a big reason why. Eckert went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 0, and struck out 7. His record improves to 7-2. The save went to Jun-soo P'il, his 3rd this season.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Blue Sox had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the top of the fourth, when third baseman Zak Makepeace hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Arthur Stevenson and made the score 1-0, Blue Sox. Makepeace was 1-3 with a walk.
"Feels good to get the job done," Makepeace said after the game.
Today's win puts Irving at 27-18, while Ottawa falls to 16-29.
