Highlanders Get Past Irving for 5-4 Win
|
The Asheville Highlanders overcame a fine performance by Irving left fielder Kenny Jones to defeat the Blue Sox, 5-4, at Asheville Park. Jones went 3 for 4 with 3 singles and a walk. Yoshida Sasaki earned the win after being summoned from the bullpen. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 3 innings. His record is now 1-0. The loss has the Blue Sox at 14-5.
Jim Abare chipped in for Asheville with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 1 run batted in.
