Blues Absorb 3-1 Loss at Asheville Park
|
The home crowd had a good time watching the Barton Springs Blues and Asheville Highlanders get after it.
Asheville pitcher Charlie Turner did his part in helping his team beat the Barton Springs Blues, 3-1. The left-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Turner picked up the win for Asheville, going 7.1 innings. He gave up 1 run on 2 hits. He now sports a record of 1-0. Tom Young got the save, the 2nd for him this season.
Tied up with the Blues in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Highlanders got a boost from center fielder Bernard Alonso. With runners on 1st and 3rd, Alonso saw a 1-2 cutter from Jason Cormack and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Asheville on top, 2-1.
"There's never a lack of effort in our clubhouse. We're willing to do the little things to get the win," Alonso told the Asheville Daily News.
The loss has the Blues at 3-6.
