Behind an impressive start by Luis Bongers, Sioux Falls beat Baton Rouge, 4-2. The win belongs to Edward Swetnam in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Bing-zhong Qiu took the loss for Baton Rouge. Mariano Bueno, credited with the save, is now 1 for 1 in save opportunities.
Pleun Vleugel took Bing-zhong Qiu deep in the bottom of the eighth. His 2-run home run put the Red Pandas on top, 4-2. In all, Vleugel had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Bongers. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
The win gives Sioux Falls a season record of 37-36.
