Santa Barbara got a decent performance from pitcher José García, but it wasn't enough to beat the Vermont Lake Monsters. Vermont won the Crane Field contest, 5-4. García threw 7.1 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The win belongs to Qing-lai Hoong in relief. His record improves to 3-3. Ángel López took the loss for Santa Barbara. With the win, Vermont goes to 27-36, while the Golden Cranes fall to 27-36.
Vermont got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Steve Scott. The right fielder stroked a 2-run double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Lake Monsters ahead, 5-4. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"I don't lose sleep over a loss," said Scott. "But I have better dreams after a win."
