Milton Defeats Baton Rouge, 3-1
|
Milton and Baton Rouge played a hard-fought contest.
In a low-scoring affair between the Milton Dogfish Head and the Baton Rouge Brass, pitcher Dan Dunn was the difference between victory and defeat. The Milton left-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 Dogfish Head win. In 7.1 innings, Dunn surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 0. He allowed 1 run. Kamiel Wabeke got the save, the 10th for him this season.
The Brass had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Dogfish Head going into the top of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 27-year old third baseman Mark Mears came to the plate. Mears hit a solo home run on a full count fastball from Baton Rouge hurler Kane Hallworth. It was Mears's 4th home run of the year.
"I felt good up there," said Mears. "I saw the ball well."
Milton now has a record of 36-14 with the win.
