The Syracuse Starks got a good effort from starter Jorge Torres in defeating the Vermont Lake Monsters at Monster Field. The final score was 2-0. The winner was Syracuse reliever Trevor Brohard, now 1-1. The loser was Fred Jerger. Vermont's current losing streak has reached 7 games.
Syracuse used a timely hit from Justin Forbes to get the win. The shortstop stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the ninth inning to put the Starks ahead, 1-0. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it made an impact.
"If you pitch well, you give yourself some opportunities," said Syracuse manager Ramón García.
