Despite a great performance by Vermont center fielder Loren Shafto, the Austin Black Mambas defeated the Lake Monsters by the score of 6-5 at Monster Field. Shafto went 3-5 with 3 doubles and a walk, while scoring 2. Steve Denton came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The Black Mambas are now 14-9, while the Lake Monsters fall to 10-13.

Austin used the timely hitting of Tony Calhoun to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Black Mambas on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"This was one of those 'not to be denied' games," said Austin field general Juan Cuestas.
