Wabeke Gets SAA #1 Pitcher Trophy Friday, September 1st , 2045 The Asheville Highlanders owe Kamiel Wabeke a lot for his performance this past month. One of the league's most dominant starters in August, Wabeke tore up the opposition with a fine 2-0 mark on his way to the USSL Double A Pitcher of the Month award. "When you're pitching this well," analyzed Wabeke, "it's a lot easier to come to the park. I don't judge my performance by the stats, I judge it -- the team judges it -- by the score of the game. I could say I'm tossing electric stuff right now and that would go over big. But if I toss that same stuff -- exact same pitch selection and location -- and they bang me around tomorrow, I was awful. That's the way baseball is." It was Wabeke who did the banging in August as he tossed up 12 strikeouts in 13 innings, holding opponents to a .196 average and posting a 2.08 ERA. Checking out his stats for the season, Wabeke has notched 3 wins and 2 losses in 0 starts, 1.57 ERA and struck out 42 batters in 40 innings. |
