Snowpeople Deal Fire 5-3 Defeat
|
Behind a solid performance from center fielder Takenao Taniguchi, the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople defeated the Franklin Fire, 5-3. Taniguchi went 2-4 with 2 doubles and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once for the Snowpeople. Picking up the win was Elias Visscher. He went 7 innings, allowing 3 runs on 5 hits. The right--hander struck out 3 and walked 3. Dennis Heath collected his 10th save.
With Ellesmere Island leading 2-1 in the top of the fourth, Taniguchi came up to bat against Franklin pitcher Quentin Gamble. Taniguchi hit a curveball to right for a 2-run double. His 12th double of the season put the Snowpeople on top, 4-1.
Taniguchi attributed the win to "energy and focus on the part of everyone."
