Hounds Go Down to Defeat, 5-1
|
Ricardo Méndez never let the Hounds get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his fastball, to pitch the Beavers to a win, 5-1. In 6.1 innings, Méndez surrendered 3 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Earning his 17th save for Ballard was Thad Phillips.
Shawn Maldonado, who is tied for 6th in the 3R in extra base hits with 24, chipped in for Ballard with a 3-run home run in the bottom of the eighth. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 RBI.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Maldonado said in reaction to the win.
Ballard now owns a record of 31-29.
