Fernández Excels, But Beavers Win
|
Beaumont third baseman Jesús Fernández had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Fernández was 4 for 4 with a home run, a double, and 2 singles. He drove in 4 runs and scored once, even as Northwest Territory beat the Crossbeaus, 6-5. The winner in relief was Gianlorenzo Albertini. The right-hander allowed no runs on 2 hits in 2 innings. He now owns a record of 3-0. The win puts the Beavers at 39-43, while the Crossbeaus drop to 42-40.
It could have been a different outcome for Northwest Territory, had it not been for Todd James, the 19-year old second baseman . James contributed a run-scoring walk in the top of the eighth inning to put Northwest Territory up, 6-5.
"I just tried to make good contact," said James.
