Surprise Beats Ellesmere Island, 8-6
|
Ellesmere Island shortstop Slavko Boskovic was sensational. He went 3-4 with 3 singles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Surprise beat the Snowpeople, 8-6. Corey Paynter, credited with the win, is now 1-0. He allowed no runs on 1 hit. Hugh Mann earned the save, his 9th.
Teo Vonhof was 1-3 for Surprise. The 18-year old center fielder had a key at-bat in the top of the seventh. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he broke a 6-6 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Wan-ling Hui. It was his 5th RBI of the season.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Surprise manager Kyle Bass.
The 4th-place Shockers go to 23-18.
