|
Ballard and Ellesmere Island played a hard-fought contest.
The Ballard Beavers beat the Ellesmere Island Snowpeople, 3-1. Ballard pitcher and Cairo, Illinois, native Thomas Rivers led the way. The winning pitcher was Rivers, now 2-1. He tossed 6 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 1 and fanning 5. Earning his 5th save for Ballard was Thad Phillips.
Gregory Johnson, the 19-year old right fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Johnson contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the fifth inning to put Ballard up, 2-0.
Rivers called the triumph "a good team win."
The Snowpeople drop to 6-6 and continue their mediocre start to the 2045 season.
