Crowds lined up early in front of The Target, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2045 USSL Rookie season. On the mound was Gene Greene for the visiting Memphis Music and Noud Taaij for the hometown Beaumont Crossbeaus. In a spirited contest, the Crossbeaus pulled out the win, defeating the Music by the score of 3-2. Especially impressive was Gene Greene.
The Crossbeaus were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth when catcher Ryan Hunter turned a full count cutter from Yong-zhan Long into a bases-clearing double. The walk-off double electrified the The Target denizens and sent the Crossbeaus home with a thrilling 3-2 win.
"We'll enjoy this win," said Hunter. "But there's more we hope to accomplish."
