Blue Dragons Come Up Short at Monroeville, 1-0
Monroeville got a strong outing from Mané Garrincha as the Yinzers defeated the Levittown Blue Dragons, 1-0, at Dragoons War Memorial Stadium. Garrincha went 6.1 innings to notch the win. He scattered 3 hits, walked 1, and struck out 2. His record improves to 3-8. Elton Ray converted his 8th save in 10 tries.

The Blue Dragons had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Yinzers going into the bottom of the sixth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old catcher Tony Kessler came to the plate. Kessler hit a run-scoring double on a 1-1 fastball from Levittown hurler Perry Copeland. It was Kessler's 14th double of the year.

"It's a mindset," said Garrincha. "Just trying to do your job, trying to be consistent."

Monroeville is now 44-48.
