The Long Island Ducks got a sterling performance from pitcher Cory Fisher, but the Shady Side Zoomies still prevailed, 3-2. Fisher threw 6.0 innings of 4-hit ball. Fred Miller sewed up the save, his 7th. With the victory, the Zoomies upped their record to 14-13.
The game was at a stalemate until first baseman Carlton Lyre came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Long Island pitcher Larry Wilson, he hit a 0-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Shady Side on top, 3-2.
"Every loss stings," said Long Island manager Kevin McCoy. "This one is no exception."
