Gómez Excels, But Generals Win
Laredo third baseman Alonso Gómez pounded Washington Generals pitchers at Hawks Field, but it was not enough to keep the Hawks from falling, 10-6. Gómez belted 2 home runs. He drove in 3 runs and scored twice. The winner in relief was Juan Hernández. He is now 1-0. The left-hander allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 3.2 innings. Joe Kelly earned the save, his 2nd.

Washington relied on the hitting of Allen Edwards to pick up the win. The designated hitter clubbed a 2-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Generals on top, 5-4. For the game, Edwards had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
