Mendoza Leads Chukars to 5-1 Win Over Bulls
|
The Idaho Falls Chukars trumped the Belleville Bulls, 5-1, at Idaho Falls Park. Idaho Falls catcher Vicente Mendoza was terrific. He went 3 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3. Picking up the win was Joshua Dobson. He went 7.1 innings, allowing 1 run on 4 hits. The right--hander struck out 9 and walked 3. The victory makes Idaho Falls 30-58.
Idaho Falls designated hitter Gonzalo Peña contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a cutter into right field for a 2-run single. It was his 65th hit of the season and put the Chukars ahead, 3-0.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Chukars manager Bobby Buck, "I like our chances."
