Ralph Winters was superb against Kennesaw. The right-hander, who is tied for 10th in the PA with a 10.0 K/9 rate, had a curveball that was virtually unhittable at times. The result was a Blaze victory. The score was 4-3. South Beach reliever Arturo Álvarez picked up the win to move to 1-0. Esa Hakala suffered the loss. South Beach leads the Premier A by 4 games.
The result might have been different, had it not been for Addy Spoelstra, the South Beach designated hitter. Spoelstra had a run-scoring single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Blaze ahead, 4-3. For the game, Spoelstra had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.
"The effort we put into this one paid off," Spoelstra said.
