The Vandals faced a stiff challenge from Columbia pitcher Christiansen Chemnitz, but persevered to claim a win at Columbia Stadium. The final score was 1-0. Chemnitz went 6 innings and allowed 1 run. John Tripcony, the winning pitcher, improved to 4-3. He pitched 5 innings, giving up 2 hits and no runs, while striking out 1 and walking 3. Luis Boll closed it out for his 13th save.

It could have been a different outcome for Eugene, had it not been for Trent Brown, the 19-year old right fielder . Brown contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the third inning to put Eugene up, 1-0.

"We take it day by day here," said Brown, "and today was a good one for us."
