River Rats Fall to Hawks, 8-3
|
Getting a good performance from center fielder Ricardo Hernández, the Laredo Hawks defeated the Columbia River Rats, 8-3. Hernández was 1 for 3 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 3 runs for the Hawks. Laredo reliever Mike Thomas picked up the win to move to 2-1. Jack Handey suffered the loss. Laredo, at 23-19, sits in 5th place in the Silver A.
Calvin Chappell was a prime contributor to the Laredo win. He was 1 for 4 with a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the bottom of the third with no one out, the 21-year old third baseman hit a 2-run single. It made the score 2-1, in favor of the Hawks.
"I really like what we did out there today," Hernández said after the game.
