Hobeaus Beat Huntington, 2-1
|
Huntington got a terrific performance from pitcher Yoshihide Sugiyama, but it wasn't enough to beat the Smoky Mountain Hobeaus. Smoky Mountain won the The Shell contest, 2-1. Sugiyama threw 7.1 innings allowing 2 runs for the losing team. Jason Stevens picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 1-1. Yoshihide Sugiyama was tagged with the loss. With the win, Smoky Mountain has a record of 22-18. Huntington falls to 24-16.
Smoky Mountain used the timely hitting of Soh Sasaki to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Hobeaus on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We found a way to get it done," Sasaki said.
