River Rats Squelch Bulls Offense in Shutout Win
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Columbia River Rats and the Belleville Bulls, pitcher Christiansen Chemnitz was the difference between victory and defeat. The Columbia left-hander earned accolades in the 3-0 River Rats win. The winning pitcher was Chemnitz, now 3-0. He tossed 6.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 6. The River Rats raised their record to 12-17.
In the top of the ninth, Kurt Walkinshaw stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Bulls were trailing 3-0, but had the bases loaded. That's when Tom Young made a terrific pitch and Walkinshaw popped out. Gone was the dream of a Belleville comeback.
