Mendoza Lifts Chukars to 7-3 Triumph
|
The Idaho Falls Chukars topped the Eugene Vandals, 7-3, the lion's share of the credit going to catcher Vicente Mendoza. On the day, Mendoza was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk, while scoring 2 times and driving in 3 for the Chukars. Steven Grant earned the win to go to 1-1. He allowed 3 runs on 7 hits, with 1 walk and 6 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Kelly Alfaro finished to wrap up his 1st save.
Eugene had the bases empty in the top of the eighth. With no one out, Arsen Campbell came to bat, hoping to do some damage. Instead, he popped out. The score remained 4-3, Idaho Falls. The Vandals saw their comeback bid fail.
The win gives Idaho Falls a record of 6-4.
