Athletic Club KC Academy got a terrific game from shortstop Steven Lutz. It wasn't enough, though, to prevent the team from falling to Mercer Island, 4-3. Lutz hit 2 home runs. Reliever Luis Silva picked up the win. His record improves to 6-0. Juan Concepción took the loss. Mercer Island, at 73-24, is 11 games up in the Premier AA.
The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the ninth. With Mercer Island trailing 3-2, Dima Tabakaev hit a fastball from José Núñez to left for a 2-run double. Just like that, the Screaming Eagles had a walk-off win.
"Say want you want about this team, they play nine innings hard," said Mercer Island manager Jesús Román.
