Atoms Flatten Mariachis, 12-1

Bethesda designated hitter Adrian Beard made his presence felt in the 12-1 Atoms triumph over the Nuevo Mexico Mariachis. Beard was 2-4 with 2 doubles, a walk, and was hit by a pitch. He scored 3 times and drove in 3. The winner was Manuel Silva, who threw 98 pitches over 7.1 innings. The left-hander was charged with 1 run on 3 hits. The Atoms, at 44-48, sit in 5th place in the Premier AA.
With Bethesda leading 1-0 in the top of the third, Beard hit a fastball from Gerard Fyson for a 2-run double. It was his 12th double of the season and put the Atoms ahead, 3-0.
Atoms manager had nothing but praise for his players after an impressive win, calling the result one of the team's best performances of the season. "Everything just came together on our end," he said. "I didn't need to do too much."
