Atoms Take Down Thunder, 5-4
|
The Bethesda Atoms took St. Petersburg pitcher Jarko Aravirta's best shot and still were able to claim a win at Atoms Field. The final score had Bethesda getting past the Thunder, 5-4. Aravirta went 6.1 innings and allowed no runs, striking out 7. The winner was Bethesda reliever Wilson Molina, now 2-1. The loser was Alfredo Flores. The Thunder have now dropped 5 straight.
Had Robert Dawson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Dawson hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Atoms.
Dawson told a Bethesda Bulletin reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
