Big Day for McCarthy as Screaming Eagles Down Atoms, 11-6
Behind a solid performance from first baseman Rick McCarthy, the Mercer Island Screaming Eagles defeated the Bethesda Atoms, 11-6. McCarthy was 4-5 with a home run and 3 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2 for the Screaming Eagles. Luis Silva came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed 1 run on 3 hits in 4 innings. His record now stands at 4-0. Mitch Henley sewed up the save, his 2nd.

The Screaming Eagles got a big at-bat from left fielder Don Barnes. For the game, Barnes went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and a walk, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the sixth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 9th double of the season gave Mercer Island a 7-5 lead.

"We'll relax tonight and get back after it tomorrow," Barnes said after the game.
